The Postmodern Parish: New Ministry for a New Era

Gary Mathieson recounts how he involved elders from his congregation in designing his sabbatical not for him alone but for both him and the congregation. His sabbatical sought to “recover and freshen” their passion for missions that had brought them together in ministry. On parallel pathways Mathieson and his congregation sought out mission experiences to broaden their horizons of how both needed to “adapt and respond” to their changing community and congregation. He then describes what those parallel pathways involved for both parties and the learnings he derived from the experiences during and after the sabbatical.
