California Nonprofit Organizations 1995

Smith, Bradford. California Nonprofit Organizations 1995. San Francisco: University of San Francisco, 1995.

Smith offers the first comprehensive statistical report on the dimensions of nonprofit activity in the State of California. Much of the report is based on the 1992 U.S. Census of Service Industries, but additional government and private data sources also were used. The report is divided into four sections: services to individuals (includes social services, and health and education services); services to the public (includes the arts, entertainment, and recreation and community services); services to members (includes membership services and religious services); and services to organizations (includes grant making services and business services). Each section contains information on the number and type of organizations found within California, the populations these organization are intended to serve, employment figures, and financial statistics. Recent trends in service, employment and finances are noted. (SM)
