Objectivity and Advocacy

Coleman, John A. "Objectivity and Advocacy," Theological Education 25 (Spring 1989): 60-78.

Coleman provocatively explores the connection between objectivity and advocacy by posing Robert Lynd's challenge to positivism, "Knowledge for what?" to both theologians and social scientists. He suggests that deciding what type of intellectuals "we" shall be is a critical enterprise, and argues for the Gramscian model of the organic intellectual. (RG)
