Priorities in Theological Education

Gustafson, James M. "Priorities in Theological Education," Theological Education 23, Supplement (1987): 69-87.

Gustafson argues that a theological school has two primary purposes: to educate persons with a sense of calling to the ecclesial ministries of the church, and to serve as an intellectual center of the church's life. He proposes that changes in curriculum -- usually meaning the addition of courses and areas of study -- be stringently evaluated on the basis of how well they serve these purposes. (RG)
