Theological Education as Character Formation?

Hall, Douglas John. "Theological Education as Character Formation?" Theological Education 24, Supplement 1 (1988): 53-79.

How does one speak of character formation as a goal of theological education in the Christian tradition, which assumes that one achieves spiritual maturity only in losing oneself in the service of others? Hall argues that character is formed as a consequence of the learner's orientation in a disciple community, not as an end in itself. Any other approach to theological education is self- defeating.
