With the cooperation of the University of Southern California, Donald Miller conducted extensive case studies on rapidly growing non-mainline Protestant churches including a focus on three groups which have spawned numerous offshoot braches: the Vineyard Fellowship, Calvary Chapel, and Hope Chapel. Miller’s research included an in-depth study of the “mother” church of each of these groups as well as extensive research on the groups/churches they have started. Miller also conducted a study on the many shelters and programs in Southern California for the homeless, most of which are sponsored by religious organizations. Miller wrote “Reinventing American Protestantism,” that details the findings of his research.
