Carl Peter provides a case study of the recent relationship between academic freedom in theology and the Catholic University of America. Because of his experience as chair of the theology department at Catholic University, Peter had unusual access to revealing documents that had not been studied previously. Peter examined several critical incidents at the university like a 1967 campus-wide boycott and the case of a professor removed in 1986 by ecclesiastical authority. (LT)
