Conference of the Council on Theological Education

Project Number:
Start Date:
Tue, 07/01/1986
End Date:
Mon, 07/31/1989

In order to better understand mainline Protestant decline, John Mulder of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary organized and directed a three-staged think-tank for the discussion and dissemination of issues facing the Presbyterian Church (USA). The first stage included activities of the Council on Theological Education and the Presbyterian Church. Second was the conference itself in which three scholars presented to an audience including the members of the Council and deans from eleven Presbyterian institutions. They convened November 4-6, 1986 to dialogue and critique current data on mainline Protestantism. The lectures were printed, bound, and sent to every Presbyterian pastor. Third, interviews held after the conference assessed the impact of the conference and lectures upon denominations, faculty, and boards of Trustees.(MG)
