John Freeman created a new model for the Supervised Ministry courses offered at the Candler School of Theology. This method has been installed in the Teaching Parish program for second year student pastors. Freeman saw a need for the previous Supervised Ministry courses to be revised and based his new model on a methodological scheme taught in Management for Your Church (Lindgren and Shawchuck, Abingdon, 1977). Freeman’s new model provided a method of institutional analysis so that student pastors would be more aware of the type of interaction that their church has with its surrounding community. This model was employed by some of the current student pastors at Candler and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
