Study of Stewardship Churches

Project Number:
Start Date:
Mon, 01/01/1996

McNamara will look comparatively at Protestant and Catholic churches which have established stewardship programs of at least ten years duration. These churches will be chosen in consultation with the National Catholic Stewardship Office and the Ecumenical Center for Stewardship Studies. Approximately one week will be spent at each church in order to obtain multi- year financial profiles of the church and to conduct interviews with the pastor and staff about the development and success (or failure) of the stewardship program. In addition, congregational members will be interviewed concerning their views and motivations regarding stewardship participation. In addition, McNamara intends to assess 1) the extent of stewardship giving across age groups; 2) how the adoption of stewardship programs affects levels of volunteering in churches; and 3) how individual or family adoption of a stewardship approach affects levels of giving.
