The Cushwa Center for the Study of American Catholicism, University of Notre Dame completed a five-year study of the history of the Roman Catholic theological school. The project included the completion of the final manuscript, review of the manuscript by an advisory committee, and revision and publication of the work. The availability of a work detailing the history of the Catholic seminary enabled Catholic leaders to be more informed and self-critical about certain decisions to be made before the year 2000. The work also stimulated others to begin working on a better historical understanding of a priestly ministry and, not incidentally contributed to the growing reputation of the Cushwa Center as the foremost center for reflecting on the present, past, and future of American Catholicism. In addition, the project contributed to deeper conversations between Catholic and Protestant theological educators. (KA)
