End Date:

Chicago Theological Seminary established the Center for Community Transformation to meet the following objectives: (1) Increase the relevance of theological education to the goal of community transformation; (2) Participate in the process of forming healthier communities; (3) Train future religious leaders who can strengthen and increase the number of dynamic congregations committed to community health; and (4) Assure a firm spiritual and financial foundation upon which to sustain the above outlined strategy.
The Center developed and directed teams of students and faculty members to work directly with local congregations and community organizations for one year as part of the second year seminary curriculum. The Center established collaborative relations with a network of institutions and local government personnel to further enhance its services. Working in local congregations through the Center for Community Transformation was made mandatory for the second year of the M. Div. Curriculum.
