Theological School Program to Improve the Quality of Congregational Ministry - Church Divinity School

Project Number:
Start Date:
Mon, 11/30/1998
End Date:
Fri, 12/31/2004

The Church Divinity School of the Pacific initiated efforts in four areas in order to enhance and develop the school’s engagement with issues of and contribution to congregational ministry in relation to the church public it serves. These four areas were: Field Education; Doctor of Ministry Scholarships; Training for Parish Liturgical Leadership; and Development of Partnership Networks.

The Field Education program enabled students to work locally with experienced pastors and congregational leaders and to gain hands-on experience of ministry while simultaneously engaged in theological reflection. The program offered four internships per year for students choosing to work in multicultural ministries. The Doctor of Ministry Scholarship program identified prospective students from ethnically diverse and economically challenged congregations and provided scholarship support. Emphasizing the need to focus on mentoring and developing students as leaders in liturgical settings, the school established a chair of liturgical leadership. Development of Partnership Networks program continued the school’s earlier partnership with the Center for Anglican Learning and Leadership and established a network of educators in Province VIII of the Episcopal Church.
