Newman Theological College established the Lay Pastoral Leadership Program that led to the development of the college’s capacity to better prepare the next generation of parish ministers. The format of the lay leadership program involved students alternating between taking courses on campus and then spending significant amounts of time with local congregations under qualified supervision. The program also helped the college to develop a network of associates in parishes and dioceses committed to establishing and maintaining a program for lay pastoral ministry. In addition, the college improved its information technology infrastructure in order to make its distance education program widely accessible.
