Theological School Program to Improve the Quality of Congregational Ministry - St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary

Project Number:
Start Date:

End Date:
Tue, 12/31/2002

St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary engaged with four distinct areas to enhance its capacity for preparing candidates for congregational ministry. These areas include: training of personnel most qualified to prepare others for ministry; recruiting potential candidates for pastoral ministry; development of resources needed to sustain programs for pastoral ministry; and, dissemination of materials to enhance to support those already in pastoral ministry.
The Seminary established and staffed faculty positions in pastoral theology. A full-time recruitment officer was employed to intensify recruitment activities in seeking potential candidates for pastoral ministry. A new capital campaign was initiated and the grant enabled the seminary to print and distribute to its alumni copies of materials addressing pastoral needs of Orthodox congregations. These included: “The Sacred Gift of Life: Orthodox Christianity and Bioethics,” and “God With Us: Critical Issues in Christian Life and Faith,” both by John Breck.
